A most painful anniversary

Twenty four years ago, on July 1st, my first-born daughter Sissy, then 30 years old, succumbed to cancer in Los Angeles after a grinding 26-month struggle. It will always seem like last week.

A month or so after Sissy died, while cleaning out her Hollywood apartment one night preparatory to moving back home to Las Vegas, Johnny Walker Black and I wrote those lyrics.

In April 2018, just a couple of months shy of 20 years later, we lost her younger sister to (unrelated) cancer. Why I'm not a babbling lunatic escapes me.
